Senior Welding Specialist

Overview

As Senior Welding Specialist, you will lead the review and approval of welding and fabrication process documents to ensure contract compliance, working closely with engineers across disciplines. You'll drive supplier quality, oversee budgets and ITPs, and provide technical leadership on ASME codes and welding procedures. You will streamline shop surveillance and inspection plans, mentor the supplier quality team, and resolve NCRs to support large-scale construction projects. This role combines technical depth with cross-functional collaboration to elevate fabrication integrity and project outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Review and approve WPS/PQR, NDE procedures, Post Weld Heat Treatment procedures, and ITPs to confirm fabrication results meet contract requirements
  • Approve and manage project budgets and monitor expenditures
  • Assess material and welding procedure submittals for ASME VIII, B31.3 toughness and Charpy requirements
  • Evaluate Supplier WPS, PQR, and material test reports to ASME IX and provide technical feedback
  • Respond to technical inquiries and adjust priorities to support project and supplier needs
  • Identify metallurgical risks in welding procedures and materials and propose mitigations
  • Develop and implement SSPs and ITPs to standardize inspections
  • Lead kickoff and pre-inspection meetings with suppliers, clients, and engineers
  • Validate inspection logs and schedules; present submittal reviews to project teams
  • Support NCR documentation, resolution, and lessons learned programs
  • Lead training for supplier quality teams and share best practices
  • Apply API 582 guidelines for welding procedures and fabrication practices
  • Collaborate with Welding Engineers and Supplier Quality Specialists
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Complies with all policies and standards
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering Technology or related field and 7 years in quality control/industrial construction or equipment manufacturing
  • OrAssociate degree in Welding Technology or related field and 9 years in quality control/industrial construction or equipment manufacturing
  • OrHigh School Diploma/GED with 11 years in quality control in industrial construction/equipment manufacturing including welding, training, and NDE
  • Knowledge of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code Sections II, V & IX
  • Experience with welding and materials inspection on large construction projects; EPC contractor experience preferred
  • Experience in qualification and application of WPS, PORs, and NDE per Codes and Standards
  • Strong understanding of material toughness and Charpy impact requirements per ASME VIII and B31.3
  • Ability to review Supplier WPS/PQR and materials tests for ASME IX essential/supplementary/nonessential variables
  • Expertise in industry standards and codes; Microsoft Office proficiency; basic AI tools
  • Valid driver's license preferred
  • NDT qualifications such as AWS, CWI, SCWI, CSWIP, EWI/EWT/EWE, IIW/EWF or BGAS preferred
  • Coating/painting qualifications (NACE, ICorr, BGAS, Frosio, ICAT) preferred
  • Boiler & Pressure Vessel AI, API 653/570/510/936 preferences; various inspector qualifications and auditors preferred
  • ISO 9001/ OHSAS/OSHAS/ISO 14001 lead auditor qualifications preferred
  • HSSE qualifications (NEBOSH, IOSH, IEMA, NIOSH, etc.) preferred
