Overview

As Regulatory & Corporate Counsel at Ooma, you will guide regulatory, privacy, and AI governance matters to enable responsible innovation. You will partner with cross-functional teams to manage risk, implement compliance programs, and address complex commercial matters. Your work will shape how Ooma complies with global privacy laws and emerging AI frameworks while supporting growth. This role offers visibility across the legal function and direct impact on product and business strategy.

Responsibilities
  • Lead data privacy and consumer protection compliance programs across US and international laws (GDPR, CPRA, HIPAA, COPPA, PIPEDA) and oversee privacy governance.
  • Assess regulatory and operational risk for AI-enabled products and services, including data governance and IP ownership.
  • Provide practical legal guidance to cross-functional teams on complex regulatory issues and business initiatives.
  • Support EU and member-state privacy, cybersecurity, and data protection requirements.
  • Advance legal department AI initiatives by identifying tools for drafting, contract review, compliance, and automation; help develop responsible AI guidelines.
  • Review, draft, negotiate, and advise on complex commercial agreements and other corporate matters as needed.
Key requirements
  • JD degree and active California Bar membership
  • 5+ years of legal experience including in-house and at least 3 years at a major law firm
  • Strong ability to interpret evolving legal and regulatory requirements and translate into actionable guidance
  • Deep knowledge of international, federal, and state privacy laws (GDPR, CPRA, COPPA, PIPEDA)
  • Experience with regulatory frameworks from FCC, FTC, and HIPAA and building compliance programs
  • Excellent written/verbal communication, drafting, negotiation, and stakeholder management
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills; highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
