Senior Underwriter - Specialty Human Services

Overview

As a Senior Underwriter in Great American's Specialty Human Services Division, you will assess and bind new and renewal cases within our risk appetite. You'll partner with actuaries, agents, brokers, and clients to collect information, analyze risk data, and determine coverage, pricing, and terms. This role blends on-site collaboration with cross-functional teams to drive profitable growth in the Pacific Northwest. You'll stay current on industry trends and regulatory changes, shaping underwriting decisions that support the division's mission in human and social services.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and underwrite new and renewal business per guidelines and risk appetite
  • Analyze risk data to decide on coverage, pricing, and terms
  • Collaborate with actuaries, agents, brokers, and clients to obtain information
  • Order and review reports (e.g., motor vehicle, loss history, outside inspections) to inform decisions
  • Ensure proper documentation and regulatory compliance of underwriting decisions
  • Evaluate existing policies for renewal or modification
  • Communicate underwriting decisions clearly to internal teams, agents, and brokers
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and market conditions
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external customers to generate new business and retain profitable business
  • Interpret and market products and services
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Economics, Risk Management and Insurance, or related field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of underwriting or related experience
  • Completion of or progress toward AU/CPCU/CIC/INS/ARM preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
