Overview As Technical Architect IV, you lead medium to large PreK-12 projects from planning through closeout, ensuring design quality, technical excellence, and regulatory compliance. You will mentor project teams, support firm-wide quality initiatives, and sign/seal documents as Architect of Record when designated. You'll work with school districts, consultants, and regulators to navigate DSA processes, driving impactful, sustainable educational environments.
Responsibilities- Lead planning, coordination, and technical execution of medium- to large-scale PreK-12 projects
- Develop and oversee construction documents aligned with goals, design intent, DSA, and codes
- Create and manage the Discipline Work Plan (DWP) with the Project Manager
- Coordinate work across disciplines, consultants, and production teams
- Foster relationships with school districts, stakeholders, consultants, and regulatory agencies
- Lead interactions with AHJs (DSA and local permitting) during review and approval
- Guide teams through DSA approval process from document prep to closeout
- Ensure documentation complies with DSA, CBC, California Accessibility Code, and educational facility standards
- Participate in client meetings, workshops, and community engagements
- Conduct research on systems, materials, and products to inform design and firm resources
- Lead construction administration activities (RFIs, submittals, field observations, reports, contractor coordination)
- Serve as Architect of Record as assigned and sign/seal work
- Mentor emerging professionals and contribute to quality assurance and knowledge sharing across the firm
Key requirements- Bachelor of Science in Architecture or equivalent professional degree
- Active California Architectural License
- NCARB certification preferred
- LEED Accreditation preferred
- Minimum 10 years of professional architectural experience with strong technical delivery
- Proven experience delivering California PreK-12 facilities
- Strong knowledge of DSA, CBC, and Educational Facility standards
- Experience collaborating with school districts and public-sector stakeholders
- Proficiency in Revit; Revizto experience preferred
- Familiarity with UpCodes, RIB SpecLink, and building code tools
- Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
