Overview In this Health Physicist role at Callaway Energy Center, you provide expert support to radiation protection programs to promote safe, legal plant operation. You'll help ensure ALARA practices, regulatory compliance, and robust radiological work planning. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate and mitigate radiological risks and support emergency response readiness. Responsibilities- Provide technical support and professional expertise to protect health and safety of personnel and the public in radiation protection programs
- Review and interpret changes to federal, state, and local radiation protection regulations for ongoing compliance
- Ensure programs and procedures meet federal, state, and international standards
- Coordinate corrective action document responses for the Radiation Protection Department
- Review Radiation First Release (RFR) requirements to ensure appropriate actions are taken
- Develop and maintain analytical work in applied radiation protection to support plant operations
- Perform evaluations, calculations, and problem solving for radiological issues
- Prepare and submit reports to ensure compliance with regulations and technical specifications
- Prepare changes to procedures, FSAR, Technical Specifications and related documents
- Support special research and development activities; prepare equipment and software specifications and evaluate suitability
- Conduct in-house surveillance to support QA/QC activities
- Maintain high standards, promote teamwork and safety behaviors, and coach workers; lead training and development
- Fulfill Emergency Response Organization duties per the Callaway Plant RERP, including timely response
- Support ongoing training, assessments, and self-assessments
Key requirements- Staff Health Physicist: High School education or equivalent; at least four years of applicable experience, advanced degrees may substitute years of experience; NRRPT or ABHP Part 1 preferred
- Senior Health Physicist: BS in chemistry, physics, health physics, nuclear engineering, or related field; 6+ years of applicable experience; ABHP Part 1 required; advanced degrees may substitute experience
- Consulting Health Physicist: BS in chemistry, physics, health physics, nuclear engineering, or related field; 6+ years of applicable experience; ABHP or equivalent qualification or relevant experience as a radioactive material shipper preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft applications; strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
- Ability to work in standard office/plant environment with potential callouts, outages, and on-call duties
