Overview In this role you lead the Walnut Creek Commercial Insurance underwriting portfolio, driving profitable growth, retention, and efficient operations for a $200M+ GWP multi-line book. You will shape territory strategies across the Bay Area, Central Valley, and Sacramento, and partner with regional and product leaders to expand high-margin segments like Technology and Life Sciences. You oversee underwriting quality, governance, and risk management while developing a high-performing team that engages agents, brokers, and clients. You will be a key driver of market strategy and cross-functional collaboration to position Chubb as a preferred market in the region.

Responsibilities- Own P&L for the Commercial Insurance P&C portfolio in Walnut Creek, focusing on premium, profitability, growth, retention, and expense management
- Forecast monthly production, annual plans, and pipeline; align with regional and product leadership
- Develop territory strategies for Bay Area, Central Valley, and Sacramento to deepen broker/client relationships
- Drive growth in Multinational, Environmental, A&H, Marine, and Financial Lines through marketing and go-to-market activity
- Collaborate with Field Operations on marketing and distribution plans; align underwriting, sales, and operations to production and retention goals
- Lead execution of underwriting strategy for new and renewal business; ensure disciplined risk selection, pricing, and terms
- Serve as senior technical underwriting referral resource for complex risks; coordinate with Home Office, Product, and Segment leaders
- Oversee underwriting governance, file standards, and audit/compliance adherence
- Direct business development activities and support key programs; guide prospecting, pipeline management, and deal execution
- Travel regularly within the region for broker, client, and team meetings to support development and distribution objectives
- Lead, coach, and develop underwriting staff; manage onboarding, performance, mentorship, and succession planning
- Ensure effective staff deployment and role alignment across locations; mentor high-potential underwriters and team leaders
- Oversee workflows, staffing, and technology use to support efficient field operations and consistent service
Key requirements- Ten+ years multi-line underwriting experience in P&C
