Overview In this role you will lead a Clinical Laboratory section, ensuring proficient staff, accurate instrument operation, and robust quality programs. You will manage administrative aspects, budget, and cross-department communication while maintaining 24/7 accountability across dual campuses. This position supports a culture of continuous improvement, patient safety, and high-quality laboratory results within USC Verdugo Hills Hospital's academic medicine network. You will partner with clinical and lab teams to drive timely, reliable diagnostics and leveraged expertise in a busy, specialized setting.
Responsibilities- supervise and instruct laboratory personnel in one or more departments
- administrative management of the section and budgeting
- ensure staff proficiency and continuing education
- maintain instrument operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- lead quality control, quality assurance, and proficiency testing
- manage employee relations and customer service
- drive performance improvement and interdepartmental communication
- 24/7 accountability for dual campuses
Key requirements- Minimum three (3) years as a clinical laboratory scientist in an accredited laboratory
- Bachelor Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or equivalent science discipline
- Microsoft Office / Computer Application knowledge
- demonstrated ability to supervise and instruct laboratory personnel
- license/certification: valid Clinical Lab Scientist license or Limited license from California
- ASCP certification (MT(ASCP) or MLS(ASCP) preferred but not required)
