Overview In this role you contribute to a culture of safety within Harvard's Environmental Health & Safety Office. You will support the Biosafety Team in implementing programs for handling biohazardous materials and recombinant nucleic acids across schools. You'll interact with lab staff, facilities, and EHS, and provide training and field support, including emergency response on a rotation. Responsibilities- Support the Biosafety Team and assist in implementing biosafety programs for biohazardous materials and recombinant nucleic acids
- Serve as a liaison among principal investigators, research staff, Facilities Management, and EHS
- Provide emergency response support on a rotating basis
- Integrate biosafety into laboratory operations and promote safe work practices per regulatory and university policies
- Perform inspections, compliance reviews, and hazard assessments of labs and related facilities
- Prepare timely compliance reports and monitor corrective actions
- Conduct risk assessments of research protocols and process registrations with COMS; participate in COMS meetings
- Deliver and assist in safety training (biological, general, physical hazards) and hazardous materials handling training
- Draft and update policies and procedures for the Biological Safety Program (BL1-BL3)
- Assist with regulatory site visits, investigations of incidents, and other EHS projects as needed
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 3 years related work experience or equivalent
- Bachelor's degree in biology/microbiology/molecular biology or related field or equivalent experience
