Overview In this remote in-house role, you support Hartford's Complex Litigation Team on high-exposure tort matters, shaping strategy with Claims and senior attorneys. You will analyze intricate issues, conduct extensive research, and draft substantive motions to influence case outcomes. You'll collaborate across departments, participate in trial prep and may attend trials, all while leveraging AI-enabled tools and remote case management systems. Responsibilities- Analyze substantive and procedural legal issues
- Conduct extensive legal research and draft pleadings and motions
- Prepare and review discovery papers and exhibits; coordinate with experts
- Assist with trial preparation and potentially attend trial
- Communicate with courts, witnesses, experts, and co-counsel per office procedures
- Support senior attorneys and clients with timely legal advice in a tech-driven environment
- Coordinate with claims professionals and participate in mediation/arbitration as needed
- Draft memoranda and develop case themes and defense strategies
Key requirements- 3+ years of legal practice handling tort defense
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Active California license to practice and CA Bar in good standing
- Strong legal research and writing skills; writing sample required
- Experience drafting substantive motions (summary judgment, demurrers, motions to strike)
- Excellent organizational skills and time management
- Strong communication and technology skills; ability to leverage new software
- Experience handling claim cases and litigation familiarity
