Overview

In this role you will provide overall project leadership for civil construction activities to ensure successful delivery. You will coordinate field inspections, material testing, and project documentation, acting as the primary liaison with the Illinois Tollway. You will manage schedules, budgets, and change orders while maintaining safety and quality across all phases. You will mentor inspection teams and contribute to future project planning during off-peak periods. Responsibilities
  • Provide overall project leadership for construction engineering activities
  • Direct field inspection, material testing, and project documentation
  • Lead coordination with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to resolve construction challenges
  • Interpret and enforce contract documents, specifications, and regulatory requirements
  • Serve as primary liaison with the Illinois Tollway, managing communications and progress reporting
  • Conduct weekly progress meetings to monitor performance
  • Manage change orders and extra work orders with proper documentation
  • Monitor schedules, budgets, and resource allocation
  • Maintain comprehensive job site records (daily reports, minutes, drawings, pay requests)
  • Ensure safety protocols are implemented and followed
  • Mentor inspection teams to ensure effective field operations
  • Assist in designing and planning future projects during off-peak periods
  • Champion project quality, safety, and stakeholder satisfaction
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related Engineering degree
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in construction inspection and civil/structural engineering with senior responsibilities
  • Previous experience with Illinois Tollway projects required
  • Proven leadership in managing complex construction projects and multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong knowledge of contract management, construction planning, and documentation
  • Familiarity with e-Builder, ICORS, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to drive to and work at construction sites
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and decision-making skills
  • Willingness to complete OSHA, CPR, and safety trainings
  • Must be able to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
