Senior Project Architect - Healthcare

Overview

In this role you will provide technical leadership on SmithGroup's healthcare design commissions, guiding project teams through design and documentation while ensuring quality and standards. You'll mentor staff, collaborate with design and technical architects and owners, and help drive project outcomes across large and mid-size healthcare projects. The position emphasizes leadership, cross-team collaboration, and delivering resilient, compliant design solutions. Responsibilities
  • Act as an office-wide technical resource for complex issues
  • Provide technical leadership on major commissions while guiding smaller projects
  • Conduct quality control reviews and enforce architectural guidelines
  • Direct team members in applying standards and documentation practices
  • Collaborate with design architects, technical architects, and owners on documentation and construction administration
  • Mentor junior staff and participate in performance coaching
  • Contribute to recruitment and interviewing processes as requested
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture; 15+ years of professional experience as a technical architect
  • Licensed architectural registration (required)
  • LEED AP preferred
  • Strong ability from schematic design through construction documents
  • Solid understanding of code implementation, jurisdiction review, construction practices and methodologies
  • Experience leading other architects and project groups
  • Proficiency with design software including Revit and SketchUp
  • Strong leadership, written and verbal communication and organizational skills
