Job description

Overview

In this role you will lead the commercial delivery of building projects, ensuring value and financial control from procurement through final accounts. You will work with operational teams, clients and supply chain to optimise commercial performance and manage risk. The position sits in the Building team, aligning with the company's focus on delivering high-quality construction across sectors. You will mentor junior commercial staff and shape commercial decisions on major projects or multiple schemes.

Responsibilities
  • Manage project commercial delivery including cost control, forecasting, reporting and final account agreement
  • Lead subcontract procurement, negotiation and contract administration to secure value and mitigate risk
  • Prepare and manage payment applications, variations and claims to protect cash flow
  • Collaborate with project teams and clients to identify risks/opportunities and drive value engineering
  • Lead, mentor and develop junior commercial staff
Key requirements
  • Proven experience managing commercial aspects of construction projects, including final accounts
  • Strong knowledge of measurement, valuation and standard forms of contract
  • Experience in subcontract procurement, negotiation and contract administration
  • Ability to produce accurate cost reports, forecasts and financial analysis
  • Understanding of construction processes, drawings and specifications
  • Experience in risk management, value engineering and dispute avoidance/resolution
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with a collaborative approach
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior team members
  • Experience across sectors such as health, education, commercial or mixed-use developments is desirable
  • Professional membership (e.g. RICS) is desirable
