Overview

As an MMIS Data Architect at Gainwell, you design and govern data architectures for large-scale Medicaid systems, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure data is structured, integrated, and validated across MMIS and MES environments. You guide data transformation from legacy MMIS platforms to modern solutions, leveraging AI-assisted automation while upholding governance. You will define and maintain data artifacts and integration patterns, ensuring CMS compliance and operational performance. Responsibilities
  • Design and govern MMIS data architectures for data conversion, integration, reporting, and downstream use
  • Guide transformation strategies from legacy MMIS to modern solutions ensuring integrity, scalability, and performance
  • Leverage AI-assisted automation to accelerate data design, profiling, validation, reconciliation, and documentation while maintaining governance
  • Collaborate with converters, architects, analysts, and developers to align designs with target-state architecture
  • Create and maintain data architecture artifacts: source-to-target mappings, canonical models, data dictionaries, governance standards
  • Ensure data designs meet CMS requirements, audit readiness, reporting needs, and performance expectations
  • Define data integration patterns and data flows between MMIS modules, analytics platforms, and external systems
  • Coordinate with infrastructure and cloud teams for hosting, security, and performance alignment
Key requirements
  • 9+ years of experience in data architecture or large-scale data platform design (preferably Medicaid/MMIS/public sector healthcare)
  • Experience supporting data conversion or data migration initiatives with source-to-target design and validation
  • 3+ years applying AI-assisted or intelligent automation to accelerate data workflows in governed environments
  • Foundational understanding of cloud infrastructure and networking (firewalls, routing, storage)
  • Experience across SDLC in large, complex implementation programs
  • Strong communication skills to explain complex data concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
