Overview

In this role, you will design, prototype and validate optical sensing technologies for low-power wearable hardware, translating requirements into robust specifications. You will lead sensor integration, calibration, and validation, collaborating with firmware, analytics, and hardware teams to feed accurate motion data into machine learning pipelines. You'll drive sensor roadmaps and ensure scalable, high-quality sensing solutions that support healthier, more informed lifestyles.

Responsibilities
  • Define, prototype and validate optical sensors (raman, spectroscopy, photoacoustic, QCL, etc.) for wearables
  • Translate sensing requirements into hardware specs aligned with product goals
  • Lead integration of optical sensors into Oura hardware with calibration, noise management and power efficiency
  • Design and execute sensor characterization and validation tests from prototype to production
  • Collaborate with firmware, algorithm, and systems teams to ensure data feeds for signal processing and ML
  • Contribute to sensor roadmap discussions and product planning based on performance and tech advances
  • Develop and maintain rigorous test methodologies, metrics, and automation for motion sensor evaluation
  • Analyze sensor data to diagnose edge cases and define corrective actions
  • Engage with sensor vendors and manufacturers to assess options and enable mass production
  • Produce technical documentation of sensor designs, trade studies, test plans, and performance metrics
  • Present findings and recommendations to engineering leadership and cross-disciplinary stakeholders
Key requirements
  • 5+ years in optical and electrode sensor design and integration
  • Experience with optical and electrode sensors and low-power embedded interfaces
  • Strong background in sensor characterization, signal quality analysis, embedded systems, and data integrity practices
  • Excellent analytical and written/verbal communication skills
