Overview In this Estimator role you support the preconstruction process by handling quantity take-offs, pricing, scoping, and bid assembly. You will interact with architects, consultants, and subcontractors to clarify scope and secure competitive bids, while supporting GMP budgeting and post-bid follow-through. The role sits within McCarthy's Preconstruction path, based in Los Angeles or San Diego, and offers exposure to value engineering and industry partnerships. You will help drive accurate estimates that enable informed, timely project decisions.

Responsibilities- Perform quantity take-offs and assist in pricing and bidding construction projects
- Clarify scope with architects/consultants and document changes
- Review milestone documents for value-alternative opportunities and pricing
- Participate in internal estimate review and final assembly for owner presentation
- Organize bid information post-bid and support change order pricing if needed
- Coordinate with subcontractors and prepare subcontract scope exhibits
- Support hard bid/GMP budgeting and subcontractor bid evaluation
- Build relationships with subcontractors to gain competitive advantage
- Represent McCarthy at industry events and maintain internal client relationships
- Stay current with estimating technology and safety/EOE programs
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related major
- Construction estimating internship experience preferred
- General knowledge of construction principles and processes
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
- Knowledge of negotiated bids, hard bids, and GMP processes
- Working knowledge of estimating tools such as OST, MC2, QTO and BIM software
- Strong math and analytical skills
- Attention to detail and solid interpersonal/communication skills
