Job Post Description
Physician Assistant - Outpatient Neurology
Spanish/English Bilingual Required
About the Opportunity
We are seeking a Physician Assistant to join our Arcadia office, work closely with our physicians, and contribute to the care of patients with a broad range of neurological conditions.
This position will have a significant focus on caring for Spanish-speaking patients, including patients with limited English proficiency. The Arcadia office serves a diverse patient population, and the Physician Assistant will support the office's physicians and clinical team across assigned patient-care responsibilities.
Initially, the role will emphasize working alongside our physicians and supporting patient evaluations, follow-up care, treatment coordination, and patient education. Based on experience, demonstrated clinical competency, and successful integration into the practice, the Physician Assistant will have the opportunity to progressively build and manage a longitudinal patient panel, with ongoing physician supervision and collaboration.
This is an opportunity to deepen your neurology expertise, develop lasting relationships with patients and families, and contribute to a growing clinical practice.
What You Will Do
All clinical responsibilities will be performed within your authorized scope, demonstrated competency, applicable California law, and the practice's Physician Assistant practice agreement.
Evaluate assigned new and established patients, obtain medical histories, perform neurological examinations, and develop and implement care plans in accordance with the practice agreement, with physician consultation and collaboration as appropriate.
Provide ongoing follow-up care, monitor treatment response and medication tolerance, and recognize when physician consultation, additional evaluation, referral, or urgent escalation is needed.
Order clinically indicated laboratory tests, imaging, and neurodiagnostic studies; review results and specialist reports; and coordinate appropriate follow-up.
Manage medications and refill requests within authorized prescribing responsibilities, and work with clinical and administrative staff on treatment authorizations and related care coordination.
Communicate directly with patients and families in Spanish and English, explain diagnoses and treatment recommendations clearly, assess understanding, and use qualified language-assistance resources when appropriate.
Support pre- and post-procedure assessment, education, and follow-up. Any procedural responsibilities will depend on appropriate training, demonstrated competency, and practice authorization.
Maintain timely, accurate documentation in the EHR; address assigned clinical messages and results; and coordinate care with referring clinicians and other members of the healthcare team.
Contribute to the broader Arcadia practice through physician collaboration, coverage of assigned patient-care needs, and participation in patient-safety and quality-improvement activities.
Qualifications Required
Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
An active California Physician Assistant license and NCCPA certification by the start of clinical practice.
Demonstrated Spanish and English proficiency sufficient for safe, effective clinical communication, including obtaining histories, explaining treatment recommendations, and providing patient education.
Current DEA registration, or the ability to obtain it before performing duties that require that registration.
Current Basic Life Support certification by the start of clinical practice.
Eligible to participate in federal and state healthcare programs and not excluded, suspended, debarred, or otherwise prohibited from participation in such programs.
Ability to timely complete credentialing and enrollment requirements for health plans and other payers.
Sound clinical judgment, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively while recognizing the limits of your training and authorized scope.
Ability to perform the position's essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred
Experience in neurology, neurosurgery, or another relevant clinical specialty is preferred. Well-qualified new graduates with a strong interest in neurology will also be considered. Clinical assignments and patient volume will be aligned with experience, demonstrated competency, and patient-care needs.
