Overview Senior Estimator at Big-D in Salt Lake City leads cost estimating and bid participation for complex projects. You contribute to a collaborative Preconstruction team, build strong subcontractor relationships, and translate design concepts into accurate budgets. You'll drive bid accuracy, risk assessment, and design-build collaboration to support Big-D's growth and market leadership. Responsibilities- Define work scope and select subcontractors with Preconstruction Manager
- Develop relationships with subcontractors and consider these when decisions are made
- Proficient in quantity takeoffs and organizing estimates in Timberline
- Lead hard bid efforts and organize bid day scopes of work
- Advance conceptual estimating in Timberline across CM Process (Program, Schematic, DD, CD)
- Understand CPM Scheduling and translate to construction budgets; communicate scheduling expectations to subs
- Understand means/methods of construction and labor productivity rates
- Know unit costs of materials and labor; assess SF cost for building types
- Engage in design-build projects (conceptual estimating, working with architects, budget management)
- Participate in VE sessions, subcontractor outreach, and turnover processes
- Contribute to forecast meetings and track budget vs actual costs
- Learn financial risk management with subcontractor bids
- Support Big-D's mission and policies
Key requirements- 7+ years of estimator experience in the construction industry
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or similar
- Field experience preferred
- Knowledge of Utah subcontractor network preferred
- Great customer service skills
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, Bluebeam)
- Proficient in OnScreen Takeoff (OST)
