Overview

In this Underwriter role, you assess and price risks for a book of business under guidance, applying underwriting policies and regulatory requirements. You work with agencies, brokers, and internal partners to quote, approve, or decline risks, and you analyze profitability to inform management decisions. You will develop agency relationships, navigate complex cases, and use CNA systems to execute day-to-day tasks. Responsibilities
  • Review applications and financials for complex risks
  • Determine acceptability of risk per guidelines
  • Identify need for additional insurability evidence and strategy
  • Set pricing based on financial and competitive analysis while ensuring compliance
  • Prepare quotes and respond to inquiries from agencies and policyholders
  • Negotiate with agents for favorable outcomes
  • Notify agencies of decisions, rate appeals, and requirements
  • Analyze risk quality and profitability for reporting to management
  • Develop and maintain agency/broker relationships
  • Provide guidance to other underwriters and cross-sell opportunities
  • Stay current on regulatory changes and industry trends
  • Utilize CNA systems for daily tasks
  • Collaborate with senior underwriters/management on high-authority risks
Key requirements
  • Advanced knowledge of underwriting and insurance industry theories and practices
  • High level of technical expertise and product knowledge
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
