Overview

As Principal Scientist in Ophthalmology Research, you will lead hands-on in vivo programs from discovery to candidate nomination and early development. You'll generate high-quality data and guide cross-functional teams to inform strategic decisions. Responsibilities
  • Design, execute, troubleshoot, and interpret in vivo pharmacology studies in ophthalmology to evaluate therapeutic candidates
  • Contribute hands-on execution while providing scientific leadership to project teams
  • Integrate in vitro and in vivo data to generate insights for program strategy and go/no-go decisions
  • Lead interdisciplinary efforts with internal and external partners to ensure timely study execution
  • Develop translational research strategies to advance disease biology understanding, pharmacology, and efficacy
  • Contribute to preclinical data packages supporting milestones and regulatory submissions
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative environment and maintain robust cross-functional relationships
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate findings through presentations and reports
  • Stay current with literature and advances to identify new opportunities
Key requirements
  • PhD with 8+ years of postdoctoral/industry experience in ophthalmology, neuroscience, biology, pharmacology, or related field
  • Deep ophthalmic research expertise and track record advancing programs
  • Hands-on experience designing and interpreting in vivo ophthalmology studies for drug discovery or development
  • Experience evaluating modalities including small molecules, biologics, gene/cell/RNA therapies
  • Technical expertise in ocular imaging, visual function testing, and histology/histopathology
  • Ability to independently develop study strategies and translate data into program decisions
  • Experience leading programs in a matrixed environment and collaboration across functions
  • Publications, patents, or contributions to successful drug discovery/development
