Overview In this Senior Estimator role, you will drive accurate, timely bids for private and public improvement projects and shape pursuit strategies. You'll lead bid development, cost analysis, and risk assessment while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure profitable outcomes. The position emphasizes pre-construction leadership, bid quality, and mentorship within a long-standing family-owned firm that values integrity and community impact. Responsibilities- Identify bid opportunities and lead business development efforts for selected clients
- Develop Go/No-Go analyses and manage bid development from outset through submission
- Coordinate take-offs, quantify scope, and evaluate subcontractor quotes (minimum two quotes per scope)
- Lead pre-bid meetings/site visits to assess constraints and profitability
- Document risks, changes, and scope implications; manage change order processes with project teams
- Provide training and mentorship to junior estimators; collaborate with Design-Build PMs on design/QA/QC
- Prepare schedules, bid documents, and executive summaries; ensure timely peer/management reviews
- Assist Contract Department from bid to contract execution; verify readiness for Stand and Deliver
Key requirements- Bachelor in Construction Management or Civil Engineering or equivalent experience
- 10+ years general civil construction experience
- 3-5 years as Project Engineer
- Experience as Project Manager on multiple projects
- Heavy-civil estimating experience (earthwork, utilities, structural excavation)
- Public and private market experience; knowledge of procurement methods (DB, Design-Assist, Best Value)
- Proficient in HCSS HeavyJob, HCSS Heavy Bid; MS Word, Excel, Project
- Valid Driver's License
