Overview

As a Fire Alarm Designer at Stantec, you contribute to multidisciplinary building design by delivering technical fire alarm deliverables under supervision. You work with a team to document existing systems, prepare construction documents, and review submittals, while coordinating with other teams. The role blends design knowledge with hands-on drafting using CAD and Revit, within an entrepreneurial, innovative environment. You help ensure code-compliant, integrated fire alarm solutions that support sustainable, high-quality projects.

Responsibilities
  • Develop project deliverables from design documents to technical reports with a team
  • Apply standard design concepts and procedures within the Fire Alarm discipline
  • Coordinate tasks with cross-functional teams and external sources
  • Assist discipline lead and senior designers with advanced technical activities
  • Use CAD and Revit to prepare project deliverables
  • Perform or delegate production tasks
  • Survey existing buildings to document fire alarm conditions
  • Prepare fire alarm construction documents (drawings and specs) for contractor issuance
  • Review fire alarm submittals and respond to RFIs
  • Attend construction punch walks to verify installation against documents and codes
Key requirements
  • Experience with CAD and Revit within Fire Alarm discipline
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and clearly communicate solutions
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Interest in working in an entrepreneurial and innovative environment
  • Basic knowledge of engineering practices in the discipline
  • Familiarity with NFPA, IBC, Life Safety Code
  • Ability to identify fire alarm devices in existing buildings and conduct surveys
  • Understanding of interactions between fire alarms and systems like sprinklers, HVAC, security
