Overview

You will join Travelers' Bond & Specialty Insurance team as an Associate Claim Counsel focused on Employment Practices Liability matters. In this role you shape claim strategy, manage outside counsel, and support underwriting and risk teams across a national footprint. You'll balance investigation, negotiation, and litigation support to deliver solid claim outcomes while maintaining exceptional service. This position offers a hybrid model and a path to influence BSI's claim strategies within a collaborative, customer driven culture.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze, investigate, and resolve lower-severity Bond & Specialty Claims under supervision
  • Manage outside counsel and vendors, including budgeting and incident/litigation plans
  • Prepare management reports on loss development and exposure with guidance
  • Coordinate recovery efforts with the Recovery Management Unit to mitigate losses
  • Attend mediations, conferences, trials, and depositions to support resolution
  • Provide legal and business support to underwriting and other teams, including contract review and endorsements
  • Ensure compliance with BSI claims processes and confidentiality standards
  • Maintain thorough documentation of claim activities and communications
Key requirements
  • 1-5 years of relevant legal or claim handling experience
  • Juris Doctor degree
  • Licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction (active license)
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Ability to negotiate terms within designated authority; strong decision-making
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong time management and ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, customers, and business partners
