Electrical Department Leader- Healthcare Building Systems

Overview

As Electrical Department Head, you will guide high-level electrical design for healthcare, life science, industrial, and commercial projects. You'll lead cross-disciplinary teams, ensure code compliance, and drive designs from concept through operation. You'll shape solutions with a focus on risk, innovation, and future-readiness while mentoring staff and sustaining strong client relationships. This role offers impact across large infra projects and a chance to influence safety, quality, and performance. You will work within a collaborative, future-focused environment at WSP.

Responsibilities
  • Provide oversight by collecting and analyzing data for procurement, design reviews, and code compliance.
  • Coordinate, review, and approve electrical infrastructure designs for mid-level to complex projects.
  • Apply advanced electrical engineering methods across project phases from concept to operation.
  • Perform investigations of site conditions and substation layouts to ensure regulatory conformance.
  • Develop construction plans and update infrastructure layout with multiple stakeholders.
  • Oversee design and construction of electrical infrastructure projects from inception to completion.
  • Lead large-scale engineering projects and clarify deliverables and deadlines.
  • Support permit reviews and engineering contracts to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Engage with public/private entities on electrical/engineering challenges.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations in technical reports and presentations.
  • Maintain high-quality, client-focused responsiveness and grow the client base.
  • Mentor and manage staff, promote professional development, and stay current with engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on federal, state, and local projects and proposals.
  • Uphold ethical decision-making and WSP Code of Conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering; 10+ years of relevant post-education experience designing power distribution for Healthcare, Life Science, and commercial scale projects.
  • Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
  • Strong proficiency in electrical engineering principles, infrastructure design, permitting, and project work.
  • Experience planning and designing with adjacent disciplines (P&C, SCADA, telecom) and knowledge of codes and compliance.
  • Capability to perform complex calculations, interpret plans, and apply regulations.
  • Experience inspecting and investigating construction/design of facilities, with strong QA/QC emphasis.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Self-leadership, client interaction, and ability to guide mid-level to senior team members.
  • Proficiency in technical writing, office tools, and data analysis.
  • Willingness to adapt to varying schedules; occasional travel may be required.
  • Preferred: Master's Degree in Engineering.
