Overview In this role you will lead electrical engineering for turnkey energy storage projects, spanning technology evaluation, design, and construction. You will work closely with clients and cross-functional teams to shape storage solutions from concept to commissioning. You will drive technical decisions, lead multi-disciplinary design efforts, and mentor junior staff, contributing to Burns & McDonnell's market-leading energy storage capabilities. This is a seller-doer position with a strong emphasis on both technical delivery and business development.
Responsibilities- Evaluate storage technologies and advise on the best fit for applications
- Conduct marketing, project development, and proposal development for storage projects
- Meet with clients and external stakeholders regularly
- Develop scope of work, conceptual design, and execution plans
- Prepare engineering cost estimates and project schedules
- Perform project management on storage consulting projects
- Lead engineering on multi-discipline energy storage construction projects
- Provide mentorship to less experienced team members
- Create construction documents for installation of energy storage electrical systems
- Develop specifications, procurement, and factory acceptance testing for batteries, inverters, enclosures, and related equipment
- Coordinate design assignments across local and remote offices
- Provide field engineering support during construction and startup
- Travel approximately 20-25% of the time
- Demonstrate progressive design and management responsibilities with knowledge of construction and commissioning
- Interpret complex problems and develop effective solutions
- Perform other duties as needed
Key requirements- 7 years of electrical engineering experience
- EPC project experience preferred
- Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred
- Experience with energy storage in utility-scale and/or large industrial facilities
- Battery technology/chemistry selection, sizing, one-line development, site layouts, inverter selection
- Cable ampacity, grounding, protective relaying, and related systems design and construction administration
- Software: SKM Power Tools, ETAP (or similar)
- Field construction and commissioning experience preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication; strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to travel
