Design Services During Construction (DSDC) Engineer - NYC

Overview

In this role you will provide technical support to ensure plans, codes, and permits are followed on complex water and wastewater projects. You will collaborate with the Owner, contractors, and design teams to review submittals, RFIs, and change orders while managing constructability and risk. Expect hands-on coordination, records management, and ongoing input to commissioning and startup activities. You will help drive successful project delivery through cross-functional collaboration and compliance with standards. Responsibilities
  • Support construction information management systems and records documentation
  • Provide technical input for commissioning, testing, and start-up of processes and facilities
  • Review design/bidding documents to enhance constructability and reduce risk
  • Participate in project risk assessments and mitigation planning
  • Oversee construction activities for compliance with plans, codes, and permits
  • Review/advise on change orders, invoices, and pay quantities with the Owner
  • Maintain accurate records of base work, contingencies, and field changes
  • Collaborate with project teams to resolve field issues with clients and regulators
  • Monitor construction progress and document daily activities and progress
Key requirements
  • Solid knowledge of building products, construction details, codes, and quality standards
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting plans, drawings, specs, and contracts
  • Strong verbal and written communication and organization skills
  • Understanding of safety requirements and compliance expectations
  • Ability to inspect construction sites and document activities
  • Typically 2+ years in resident engineering or related field
  • Preferred: 4+ years in design services during construction or related field
  • PE in New York or ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months
