Responsibilities- Advise on laws governing tax-exempt organizations
- Review Foundation contracts (grants, technology, events, consulting)
- Inform on program developments, partnerships, fundraising, and sponsorships
- Assist staff in planning programs to ensure legal compliance
- Advise on sponsorships, UBTI, charitable activities, grantmaking, Form 990
- Oversee charitable solicitation registration and related issues
- Collaborate with Finance, HR, and IT across the organization
- Support projects across the Chamber and Foundation as part of a broader legal portfolio
Key requirements- 6+ years in legal roles with tax-exempt organizations
- Juris Doctor with strong academic performance
- DC Bar in good standing or eligible to waive in
- Strong business sense and client service orientation
- Ability to oversee outside counsel
- Excellent legal research and analytical skills
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Independent work style and ability to manage multiple matters
- Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
- Previous law firm or in-house experience a plus
