Senior Estimator - Commercial Construction

Overview

In this Senior Estimator role, you will lead the creation of accurate project estimates to support bidding, procurement, and preconstruction. You will work closely with clients, subcontractors, and project teams to shape competitive proposals and identify cost-saving opportunities. Your analysis will drive bid strategy, risk assessment, and buyout planning, enabling the company to win work and transition smoothly to operations. This role combines technical rigor with cross-functional collaboration to support growth in a respected contractor.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed estimates, budgets, and bid proposals for commercial projects
  • Analyze drawings, specs, and documents to develop pricing
  • Assess scope, identify risks, and recommend value engineering opportunities
  • Solicit and compare subcontractor and supplier pricing for competitive coverage
  • Develop bid packages, manage RFIs, and communicate project requirements
  • Coordinate with project management and preconstruction during reviews and handoffs
  • Participate in buyout activities and subcontractor negotiations
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and conceptual estimates
  • Maintain pricing databases for labor, materials, and subs
  • Attend site visits and pre-bid meetings
  • Use estimating software and MS Office for documentation
Key requirements
  • 5-8+ years of commercial estimating experience with a general contractor
  • Ability to interpret architectural/engineering drawings and specifications
  • Experience with conceptual estimates, hard bids, negotiated proposals, and design-build budgets
  • Knowledge of means/methods, scheduling, and procurement
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and estimating software such as Sage, BuildingConnected, Bluebeam, or similar
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and organizational skills
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
