Site Civil Team Lead

Overview

In this role, you lead HDR's Site Civil Engineering Team within Building Engineering Services, driving the design of facility-related sites across multiple markets. You'll guide multidisciplinary project teams from planning through construction, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective civil solutions. You shape project direction, mentor staff, and engage with clients to deliver integrated site development, grading, utilities, and drainage designs. This is an opportunity to advance innovation and sustainability in critical infrastructure while leveraging HDR's employee-owned culture.

Responsibilities
  • Develop civil scope of work and budgets for proposals
  • Participate in the interview process for new work
  • Serve as Engineer of Record on complex projects
  • Coordinate the civil team with internal and external resources
  • Define team growth and development
  • Support individual team member career development
  • Advocate for the team and site civil business line
  • Collaborate with other HDR groups
  • Manage client meetings and correspondence
  • Author subconsultant agreements
  • Guide design team through plan development and cost estimates (concept through construction documents)
  • Use engineering judgement to determine best actions
  • Seek information and solutions independently
  • Manage multiple tasks and projects
  • Communicate effectively with managers and team members
  • Manage workload and future commitments
  • Pursue efficiencies in work and operations
  • Mentor junior staff and delegate tasks
  • Advocate for HDR and BES Site Civil team
  • Perform other tasks supporting HDR and BES mission
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 7 years of experience
  • Professional registration, license, or certification may be required
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Good leadership and organizational skills
  • Active participation in employee-owned culture is a must
  • Preferred: experience with an architectural/engineering firm
  • Preferred: project management experience
