Overview In this role you will underwrite contract surety and contribute to the Southern California business plan by building a profitable book with select brokers. You will work closely with the Regional UW Director to balance risk, pricing, and growth, while fostering strong agency relationships. You'll assess submissions, apply underwriting rules, and recommend terms within authority to support profitability. Responsibilities- Risk selection/rejection, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability within scope of authority
- Analyze submissions and assess risk quality to determine terms
- Apply underwriting rules, rating manual rules, and laws/regulations
- Recommend actions on risks exceeding authority
- Enter and monitor accounts using underwriting, analysis, and desktop systems
- Communicate underwriting issues effectively internally and externally
- Develop a book of contract surety business with select brokers/agents
- Maintain and expand relationships with producers and principals to retain and grow profitable business
- Visit producers to retain accounts, survey exposures, and pursue new opportunities
Key requirements- 6+ years of contract surety experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- Strong communication and customer relationship skills
- Sales mindset with pipeline development
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
- Analytical problem-solving ability
- Self-starter with high energy and entrepreneurial spirit
- Solid time, organizational, and desk management skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new applications
- Travel and valid driver's license required
