Overview In this role you will lead the modernization of geospatial systems, bridging GIS operations with cloud engineering and DevSecOps. You'll define migration roadmaps, optimize cloud and storage, and prepare production-ready environments. You will work closely with client IT, geospatial and application teams to preserve mission functionality and data integrity. This position offers the chance to shape enterprise geospatial infrastructure and support mission-critical workflows at scale. Responsibilities- Modernize legacy GIS workflows and automations, and design migration plans to containerized, serverless, or cloud-native patterns
- Define target-state architectures, dependencies, risk and security considerations, and acceptance criteria for migrations
- Coordinate with client IT, cloud, cybersecurity, geospatial operations, and data-management teams to preserve functionality, access controls, and observability
- Document migration processes, create migration plans, testing summaries, and lessons learned
- Analyze production storage and data management needs, and lead storage optimization with object storage, lifecycle policies, and retention rules
- Ensure storage solutions meet security, integrity, accessibility, and recoverability requirements
- Develop storage and data-management plans, SOPs, and training materials
- Lead planning for development, test, staging, and training environments using cloud-native services and IaC
- Manage environment inventories, provisioning/decommissioning, validation steps, and security and cost controls
- Provide technical leadership within the project team, contribute to requirements, planning, and production deployment decisions
- Translate complex modernization decisions for technical and non-technical stakeholders and mentor staff on DevSecOps and GIS modernization practices
Key requirements- 15+ years of geospatial technology experience with senior-level tech leadership in GIS architecture and cloud deployments
- Experience modernizing workloads from legacy environments to containerized or cloud-native architectures
- Advanced AWS and/or Azure cloud architecture experience including IAM, security, cost management, and compliance
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, managed container services, and CI/CD patterns
- Experience with object storage, data lifecycle management, and governance for large geospatial datasets
- Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online, geodatabases, and GIS interoperability with enterprise systems
- Strong programming and data engineering skills (Python, SQL, R, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, SQL Server, APIs, OpenAPI)
