Overview

As Site Commissioning Manager, you will lead the end-to-end commissioning of data center capacity in Chicago, coordinating engineers, construction managers, and operators to meet scope, schedule, and budget. You'll develop standards, supervise the commissioning agent, and ensure QA/QC in-field testing to deliver reliable, scalable infrastructure for Microsoft Online Services. This role blends project leadership with hands-on field work and travel. You'll contribute to CO+I's data center delivery roadmap and collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize performance.

Responsibilities
  • Direct reporting to the CO+I Sub-Region Commissioning Lead and primary ownership of metro commissioning projects
  • Create and maintain best practices for quality and cost-effective solutions
  • Manage the contracted Commissioning Agent on data center construction projects
  • Develop Commissioning Procedures and Standards
  • Conduct construction site QA/QC inspections and oversee the commissioning process
  • Drive scope and schedule of commissioning activities
  • Regularly report progress on QA/QC, commissioning, and KPI metrics to management
  • Coordinate vendor project managers and align on scope, schedule, and budget
  • Attend owner/architect/contractor meetings and report project status
  • Ensure commissioning process is managed and reported for CO+I projects
  • Travel to project sites; work independently in a construction environment
  • Develop and refine commissioning practices and delivery strategies in line with CO+I road map
  • Provide vendor oversight and scorecard-based evaluation; prepare project documents and approvals
  • Relocation required within 50 miles of the project location

Key requirements
  • Doctorate Degree in Mechanical, Materials, Reliability, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 2+ years experience OR Master's in the same fields with 4+ years experience OR Bachelor's in the same fields with 5+ years experience OR 12+ years of relevant technical engineering experience
  • Effective communication with cross-functional teams
  • Vendor and stakeholder management
  • Analytical problem solving and issue resolution
  • QA/QC in construction environments
  • Development of commissioning scripts and procedures
  • PMP certification (preferred)
