Overview As a scientific leader in the Virology Department, you propel antiviral discovery programs from target ID to candidate selection, shaping Gilead's antiviral portfolio. You will guide cross-functional teams, design and interpret cell-based and mechanistic virology studies, and mentor scientists. This role blends hands-on experimentation with strategic direction in a fast-paced, well-resourced environment driven by the mission to improve global health. Responsibilities- Provide scientific and technical leadership for antiviral discovery programs from identification to candidate progression
- Lead design and execution of in vitro virology studies with hands-on cell-based assays and mechanistic work
- Evaluate novel antiviral targets and technologies to accelerate scientific understanding and decision-making
- Serve as scientific leader on cross-functional teams, guiding data interpretation, priorities, and next steps
- Mentor scientists and uphold rigorous experimental standards and an inclusive lab culture
- Communicate insights to project teams and senior leadership; contribute to publications, patents, and regulatory submissions
Key requirements- BS in Virology, Immunology, or Microbiology with 10+ years of relevant research experience OR MS with 8+ years OR PhD with 5+ years
- Proven ability to independently advance complex research through robust experimental design, execution, data interpretation, and scientific communication
- Experience mentoring or supervising lab-based scientists
