Senior Project Architect - Science & Technology

Overview

In this role you guide complex, science and technology design efforts across SmithGroup's Dallas office, providing technical leadership on major commissions while mentoring project teams. You'll ensure rigorous documentation and construction administration, coordinating with architects, engineers, and owners to meet standards and schedules. You'll drive quality control, enforce guidelines, and develop team capabilities through mentorship and coaching. The role sits at the intersection of design excellence and technical mastery, shaping high-impact, research-driven spaces.

Responsibilities
  • Provide office-wide guidance on complex issues
  • Lead technical direction on large design commissions while overseeing multiple projects
  • Perform quality control and enforce architectural guidelines
  • Direct team on applying architectural standards and guidelines
  • Collaborate with design architects, engineers and owners on documentation and construction administration
  • Mentor junior staff and participate in performance coaching
  • Participate in recruitment and interviewing processes when requested
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or equivalent
  • Minimum 15 years of professional experience as a technical architect on medium to large projects
  • Architectural Registration required
  • Strong technical competence from schematic design through construction documents
  • Understand code implementation, jurisdiction review, construction practices and methodologies
  • Experience leading other architects and project teams in Science and Technology typology
  • Experience with University of Texas System related projects is a plus
  • Proficiency with design software including Revit and SketchUp
  • Strong leadership, written and verbal communication and organizational skills
