Overview As Associate Principal in HDR's Education & Science practice in Atlanta, you guide the EdSci sector's direction in Georgia and lead a growing team. You'll drive business development, pursue major education and science projects, and mentor project teams to deliver high-quality, on-time results. You'll foster strong client relationships from pre-positioning through delivery while contributing to HDR's regional growth. This role blends leadership, design excellence, and industry influence to shape educational and research facilities that advance communities.
Responsibilities- Steer the EdSci sector strategy in Georgia and support broader regional growth
- Develop capture plans, client relationships, and proposal qualifications
- Lead pursuit go/no-go decisions and interview strategies
- Serve as Principal-in-Charge and/or Project Manager on projects
- Oversee project performance: technical quality, schedule, and budget
- Direct staffing, workload planning, and resource alignment across teams
- Champion QA/QC procedures to ensure design excellence
- Mentor Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams
- Coordinate with clients and stakeholders to drive successful outcomes
- Develop abstracts/presentations for industry conferences and promote program messages
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Architecture
- 10 years related experience
- Minimum 5 years project management experience
- Registered Architect
- Experience leading teams on projects
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project)
- Knowledge of local/regional market
- Strong planning and mentoring skills
- Active participation in employee-owned culture
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Strong leadership and mentorship
- Client relationship management
- PMP certification or demonstrated leadership of large, complex projects or programs
- LEED Accreditation and sustainable design expertise (low-carbon, SDGs, Living Building Challenge)
