MOHS Histology Technician

Seeking a full time Histology Technician (MOHS experience ideal) to join a great Laboratory in north-eastern Wisconsin!

The Histology Technician is responsible for obtaining and preparing tissue specimens for microscopic examination. Duties include but are not limited to grossing, fixation, cutting, mounting, and staining tissue samples for dermatopathologist review. The technician prioritizes and completes procedures accurately and promptly while maintaining accurate records in compliance with established policies and regulations.

This is a full time position, schedule will work Monday - Friday between the hours of 7:00a-5:00p

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Perform complex histology procedures using a variety of techniques.
2. Accession tissue specimens.
3. Receive and prepare tissue specimens.
4. May perform grossing and inking (dependent on meeting Agency requirements).
5. Prepare media, chemicals, reagents, and solutions.
6. Process tissue, embedding, microtomy/cutting, staining, use cryostat, freezing.
7. Label and prepare slides.
8. Performs quality control on completed slides.
9. With oversight, identify problems that may affect diagnosis and results.
10. Examine slides under the microscope to detect deviations from the norm and report abnormalities.
11. Preserve and store samples.
12. Clean and maintain instruments, equipment, and work areas.
13. Log, file, track, and store specimens and slides.
14. Maintain lab supplies inventory.
15. Maintain documentation in all CLIA-required and clinic or lab-preferred QA/QC logs.
16. Adhere to compliance and completion of compliance training.
17. Perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

1. Associate s degree required.
2. Completion of NAACLS histology training program required.
3. HT ASCP certification or completion of a Histology Technician training course, with eligibility to sit for the exam, is required. Certification must be obtained within one year of hire.
4. CLIA requirements to perform specified job duties, preferred:
   • A minimum of 60 semester hours with: 24 hours in medical lab technology OR 24 hours with (6-chemistry, 6-biology, and 12 hours in chemistry, biology, medical technology in any combination AND three months documented lab training in high complexity testing by specialty.
5. 2+ years as a histology technician preferred.

1. Must be knowledgeable in standard concepts, practices, and procedures, with a strong understanding of anatomy and tissue pathology.
2. Must be detail oriented.
3. Must have effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse teams.
4. Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
5. High level of integrity, ethical judgment, and confidentiality when handling sensitive data.
6. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required. Must be able to learn new software quickly.
7. Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with staff, leadership, and the public.
8. Ability to use time productively and contribute to high levels of company operational efficiency and effectiveness.
9. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
