A major tertiary teaching hospital and regional medical center in Newark is expanding its surgical services team and seeking an experienced, highly competent Physician Assistant (PA) specializing in wound care for a 22-week locum tenens assignment running November 2, 2026, through April 2, 2027.
Designed for advanced practice providers seeking clinical intensity without off-shift obligations, this position offers an ideal practice framework: predictable daytime hours (7:00 AM 4:00 PM), collaborative surgical support, and zero call requirements.
The Practice Experience
Join an established, multidisciplinary general surgery team delivering comprehensive inpatient wound consults, complex surgical care, and operating room support across a high-acuity patient population.
- Advanced Clinical Scope: Deliver high-level inpatient and surgical wound care in collaboration with supervising surgeons and APPs (averaging 15 patients per day):
- Conduct thorough inpatient wound consults, routine follow-up rounding, and comprehensive treatment planning
- Perform bedside and operating room debridements, complex dressing management, and advanced wound-VAC applications
- Assist with pre-procedural planning and intraoperative surgical support within General Surgery suites
- Collaborate seamlessly with attending surgeons, nursing specialists, and allied healthcare professionals
- Schedule & Lifestyle Advantage: Standard Monday through Friday daytime schedule (7:00 AM 4:00 PM) with occasional overtime as clinically required.
- Zero Call Burden: Uncompromising off-shift schedule with no evening call and no weekend obligations.
- Assignment Duration: 22-week dedicated contract block (Nov 2, 2026 Apr 2, 2027) with temporary privileging available.
Candidate Profile & Qualifications
We are seeking a patient-focused, procedurally skilled Physician Assistant dedicated to surgical excellence and advanced tissue management.
- Credentials & Certification: Physician Assistant Certification (NCCPA); active, recognized Wound Care Certification required.
- Licensure: Active, unencumbered New Jersey State Physician Assistant License.
- Clinical Experience: Demonstrated hands-on clinical experience in complex inpatient wound management, surgical debridement, and wound-VAC therapy.
