Critical Care Nurse Practitioner Job Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner in critical care, intensive care, or a comparable acute-care setting
- Valid Nurse Practitioner license and advanced practice credentials eligible for practice in Pennsylvania
- Current BLS certification
- Demonstrated experience with critical care billing documentation, including 99291 encounters
- Documented procedure logs with dates, including experience placing central lines and arterial lines
- Strong clinical judgment and the ability to manage critically ill patients during overnight coverage
- Experience with intubation, paracentesis, thoracentesis, or lumbar puncture is valued and may support additional privileges
- Ability to complete credentialing requirements, which may take approximately 90 days
Critical Care NP Responsibilities
- Perform initial assessments and triage patients based on presenting conditions and available clinical information
- Evaluate and manage critically ill patients during overnight shifts in a Level II trauma setting
- Perform required bedside procedures, including central line and arterial line placement
- Monitor and interpret relevant laboratory and procedure results, discuss findings with the physician, and communicate plans to patients and families
- Collaborate with physicians and the multidisciplinary critical care team to develop and coordinate treatment plans
- Respond to calls from established patients and families, assess needs, and provide appropriate clinical guidance
- Arrange follow-up care and assist with preauthorization for medications, diagnostic studies, and treatments within the provider's scope
- Maintain thorough clinical documentation, including critical care billing documentation, and comply with applicable policies, procedures, and department-specific requirements
