Job Summary A high-volume diagnostic laboratory in North-Metro Atlanta is seeking a dedicated and skilled Dermatopathologist or AP/CP Pathologist with general fellowship experience in dermatopathology. In this role, the physician will be responsible for the examination, interpretation, and diagnosis of dermatologic specimens with a primary focus on nail unit samples within a high-volume laboratory environment.
The ideal candidate possesses specialized fellowship training and/or deep expertise in dermatopathology, with the proven ability to accurately diagnose inflammatory, infectious, autoimmune, benign, premalignant, and malignant diseases of the skin and nails. The selected candidate will provide timely case sign-outs, collaborate closely with fellow pathologists and client physicians, and maintain rigorous standards of diagnostic quality and turnaround time.
Key Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities Specimen Examination: Examine and interpret a broad spectrum of dermatopathology specimens, including skin biopsies, excisions, and specialized nail unit specimens.
Diagnostic Accuracy: Render accurate and timely diagnoses in a high-volume case environment while maintaining strict quality and consistency standards.
Reporting: Sign out comprehensive pathology reports summarizing microscopic findings, diagnostic interpretations, and clinicopathologic correlations.
Pathology Evaluation: Evaluate inflammatory, infectious, autoimmune, benign, premalignant, and malignant dermatologic conditions.
Specialized Studies: Interpret special stains, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and molecular studies as applicable to dermatopathology.
Clinical Correlation: Correlate histopathologic findings with clinical history, photographs, and laboratory data.
Quality Assurance: Participate in consensus reviews, quality assurance, proficiency testing, and peer review activities.
Physician Communication: Communicate significant or unexpected findings directly with referring physicians when appropriate.
Collaboration: Work effectively with laboratory personnel, histotechnologists, fellow pathologists, clinicians, and administrative staff.
Education & Training: Support educational initiatives, conferences, and continuing medical education (CME) activities as needed, including involvement in training programs such as teaching podiatric medicine residents.
Position Requirements Education: MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
Board Certification: Board certification in Anatomic Pathology (AP) or Anatomic & Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) by the American Board of Pathology.
Experience & Training: Relevant experience and/or fellowship training in Dermatopathology.
Preferences: Board certification or board eligibility in Dermatopathology is strongly preferred. Experience working in a high-volume dermatopathology laboratory is a plus.
Licensure: Active and unrestricted medical license, or eligibility for licensure, in the applicable states.
Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in the interpretation of skin and nail pathology specimens.
Skills: Strong diagnostic, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions General in-office environment with private office space provided.
