Position Summary

The Pediatric Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, treating, and managing pediatric patients admitted to the hospital. This role includes conducting patient rounds, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, developing treatment plans, coordinating care among multidisciplinary teams, and providing education and support to patients and families.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive histories and physical examinations on pediatric patients.
  • Assess, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic pediatric conditions in the inpatient setting.
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests.
  • Develop, implement, and modify evidence-based treatment plans.
  • Conduct daily patient rounds and document findings in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Collaborate with pediatricians, specialists, nursing staff, therapists, and case managers to coordinate patient care.
  • Respond to changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions.
  • Participate in admissions, transfers, and discharge planning.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatments, medications, and follow-up care.
  • Perform clinical procedures within scope of practice and organizational privileges.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.
  • Participate in performance improvement, quality assurance, and patient safety initiatives.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor for nursing staff and other healthcare team members.
  • Participate in hospital committees, continuing education, and professional development activities.
Required Qualifications
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited program.
  • Current Nurse Practitioner certification (PNP-AC, PNP-PC, FNP, or equivalent, as appropriate).
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • DEA registration and state prescriptive authority as required.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of pediatric clinical experience preferred.
