Emergency Medicine Physician

Ochsner Health

New Orleans, Louisiana

Job description

Ochsner Health's Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a motivated academic emergency physician to join our growing Division of Emergency Ultrasound, with the unique opportunity to serve as Program Director in establishing our Advanced Emergency Ultrasonography Fellowship. This position is ideal for an ultrasound fellowship trained emergency physician with a passion for program development, mentorship, and advancing point-of-care ultrasound education at a major academic medical center.

The Division of Emergency Ultrasound has experienced substantial growth alongside the launch of our Emergency Medicine residency program in 2020. The division currently consists of three ultrasound fellowship trained emergency physicians and is fully integrated into the department's clinical and educational mission. We have a robust infrastructure in place including five dedicated ultrasound machines, established billing practices, a Qpath-based quality assurance workflow, and a broad procedural scope encompassing nerve blocks and endocavitary examinations. The division oversees comprehensive ultrasound education and resident rotations, providing a strong foundation for the development of an advanced fellowship program. The Fellowship Program Director will lead the creation and administration of the fellowship, with active support from existing division faculty.

Ochsner Medical Center is a tertiary referral center with an Emergency Department volume exceeding 75,000 visits annually. Ochsner Health is Louisiana's largest non-profit, academic, multi-specialty healthcare system, comprising 30 owned, managed, and affiliated hospitals and more than 60 health centers. The system employs over 1,100 physicians across more than 90 specialties and subspecialties and supports more than 600 active clinical research studies.

Ochsner is home to the Ochsner Clinical School, in partnership with the University of Queensland, enrolling approximately 130 medical students annually. It is one of the largest non-university-based physician training centers in the United States and the largest teaching hospital in Louisiana. Ochsner has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a "Best Hospital" in multiple specialty categories and by Becker's Hospital Review as one of the "150 Great Places to Work in Healthcare."
