The Bus Monitor provides support within the student transportation services area with specific responsibilities for assisting special education students during transport to and from school and/or special activities; and ensuring the safety and sanitation of assigned vehicles.
Job Duties
- Assists special education students and other passengers by providing safe loading and unloading from buses during normal transport and emergency situations.
- Secures students and/or their equipment (e.g. restraints, wheel chair tie downs, seat belts, etc.)
- Assists bus driver to ensure a clean, safe environment for student passengers (e.g. sweeping, mopping, washing windows, disposing of trash, etc.)
- Enforces rules/regulations and maintains student safety and well-being.
- Interacts with teachers and parents by effectively communicating with students and dealing with behavioral issues that impact safe transportation.
- Monitors students with special needs until released to teacher, instructional assistant, parent, etc.
- Documents student activities, conveys information, and/or complies with established guidelines. (e.g. incident reports, passenger misconduct, etc.)
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Related job experiences desired (paraprofessional, CNA, Direct Support Professional, etc)
- CPR/First Aid Certificate/AED preferred, or willingness to obtain
- Must pass a pre-employment background check; DOT physical exam, drug test, and criminal justice fingerprint/background clearance.
Pay
$15.83 - $19.87 per hour (based on relevant work experience)
