Executive Medical Director Location: Hybrid ( 3 days in-person / 2 days virtual)
Permitted States: Must reside in Colorado or New Mexico (Strong preference for the Denver Metro area or Northern Colorado)
Employment Type: Full-Time (Monday Friday) Exempt, Salaried
Base Compensation: $300,000 $325,000 per year (Depending on Experience)
Incentive Compensation: Quarterly Bonus Plan (10% 15%) based on patient retention, clinical volume, EBITDA, and productivity benchmarks
Position Overview We are seeking a visionary and transformative Executive Medical Director to serve as the senior clinical authority and executive leader for a growing behavioral health and addiction medicine network.
Balancing executive management with active direct patient care (50% to 75% patient-facing commitment), this individual will directly oversee a multidisciplinary clinical team of 40 to 50 providers across multi-state operations (Colorado, New Mexico, and California).
The ideal candidate is an ASAM Board-Certified Physician and an empathetic leader dedicated to low-barrier, high-access care. Adopting a mission-focused philosophy centered on Harm Reduction, Quality of Life (QoL), and patient-defined recovery outcomes, the Executive Medical Director will lead change management, champion EMR technology integration, optimize clinical operations, and foster high-volume, high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Strategy, Governance & Leadership Provide overarching medical leadership and clinical direction across multi-state clinical operations.
Establish, maintain, and advance clinical standards, protocols, policies, and governance structures consistent with applicable regulations, evidence-based practice, and ASAM standards.
Directly lead, mentor, and evaluate Medical Directors and clinical leaders while providing oversight to the broader provider organization.
Establish clear clinical leadership structures, roles, responsibilities, accountability, and escalation pathways across the organization.
Develop and maintain a strong clinical leadership pipeline, including leadership development, succession planning, and identification of emerging clinical leaders.
Partner with executive leadership to establish clinical priorities and translate organizational strategy into measurable clinical initiatives.
Promote a culture of clinical excellence, accountability, collaboration, patient safety, and continuous improvement.
Provider Strategy & Workforce Planning Oversee provider capacity, productivity, staffing models, and clinical workforce planning in partnership with Operations and executive leadership.
Develop scalable provider models that support organizational growth while maintaining appropriate access, quality, and patient safety.
Establish expectations and performance standards for clinical leaders and providers.
Monitor provider performance, productivity, quality, and clinical outcomes; partner with leadership to address performance or capacity concerns.
Support recruitment, onboarding, retention, development, and succession planning for clinical leadership and provider teams.
Ensure provider roles, responsibilities, and reporting structures align with the organization's evolving clinical and operational needs.
Mandatory Qualifications & Requirements Medical License: Active, unrestricted Physician license (MD or DO) in Colorado (or eligible/in-process with immediate eligibility) .
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT): Deep expertise and hands-on clinical experience in MAT / Addiction Medicine.
Board Certification: ASAM Board Certification (American Society of Addiction Medicine) preferred or required.
Executive Experience: Proven track record in clinical leadership, provider management, and multi-state clinical governance.
Technology & Change Management: Demonstrated comfort with EMR technology optimization and driving operational change.
