Position Summary
Atlas Survival Shelters is seeking an experienced Flux Welder to join our fabrication team building heavy-duty underground bunkers and structural steel components. This role is responsible for producing high-strength welds using flux-core processes to meet strict safety, durability, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities Fitter

  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication plans
  • Measure, cut, and fit metal components to exact specifications
  • Align structures and components using jigs, clamps, and layout tools
  • Assist welders by prepping materials and ensuring proper fit-up
  • Verify dimensions and tolerances before welding begins
  • Operate fabrication tools (grinders, torches, saws, etc.)
  • Perform tack welding when required (preferred but not mandatory)
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Follow all safety procedures and company standards

Fitter Requirements

  • Experience as a fitter, fabricator, or in a welding environment
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and measurements
  • Strong knowledge of metal fabrication and layout techniques
  • Skilled in using hand tools and shop equipment
  • Ability to lift heavy materials and work in a shop environment
  • Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented

Fitter Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in structural steel or heavy fabrication
  • Basic welding skills (MIG, TIG, or Stick)
  • Experience working with large-scale builds (tanks, pipes, bunkers, etc.)
  • Familiarity with measuring tools (tape, square, level, calipers)

Key Responsibilities For Flux

  • Perform flux-core arc welding (FCAW) on structural steel, bunker shells, frames, and components
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols
  • Prepare materials by cleaning, cutting, fitting, and aligning components prior to welding
  • Ensure welds meet structural, waterproofing, and cosmetic standards
  • Conduct visual inspections and basic quality checks on completed welds
  • Maintain welding equipment and follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements
  • Collaborate with fabrication, engineering, and quality control teams to meet production timelines
  • Support continuous improvement in welding efficiency and structural performance

Flux Qualifications

  • 2+ years of flux-core welding experience in structural steel or heavy fabrication
  • Ability to weld in multiple positions (flat, vertical, overhead)
  • Strong blueprint reading and measurement skills
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred
  • AWS certification or equivalent experience is a plus
  • Ability to lift heavy materials and work in a fast-paced production setting

Employment Type: Full-time
Schedule: Day shift with overtime as needed (6-3:30) M-Th & (6-10am) F
Compensation: Competitive, based on experience
