Position Summary
The HVAC Service Technician is responsible for installing, servicing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial HVAC, refrigeration, and boiler systems. This position requires strong diagnostic skills, technical expertise, and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service while ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair commercial HVAC, refrigeration, and boiler systems
- Perform preventive maintenance to maximize equipment performance and lifespan
- Inspect, test, and evaluate HVAC equipment, controls, and system components
- Repair pumps, motors, bearings, seals, valves, piping, and related mechanical equipment
- Install and service thermostats, humidistats, timers, controls, and auxiliary HVAC components
- Adjust and balance HVAC systems according to manufacturer specifications
- Test piping and refrigerant systems for leaks and perform necessary repairs
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals
- Assemble, install, and connect HVAC equipment, ductwork, piping, and related components
- Fabricate or modify ductwork and mechanical components as needed
- Complete detailed work orders, service reports, and documentation
- Communicate equipment findings and repair recommendations with customers professionally
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Collaborate with installation and maintenance teams when needed
- Follow all company policies and OSHA safety standards
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 5 years of commercial HVAC service experience
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Experience servicing HVAC, refrigeration, and boiler systems
- Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
- Working knowledge of HVAC electrical systems, motors, controls, and local codes
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple service calls
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
Preferred
- EPA Universal Certification
- Boiler service experience
- Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and controls
- Manufacturer certifications are a plus
Physical Requirements
This position regularly requires the ability to:
- Lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Walk, stand, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb ladders, and work on rooftops
- Work in confined spaces and varying weather conditions
- Operate hand tools, power tools, recovery equipment, testing instruments, and diagnostic equipment
- Perform repetitive motions while servicing equipment
Work Environment
This is primarily a field service position supporting commercial customers throughout the service area. Technicians work both indoors and outdoors in a variety of commercial and industrial environments, with occasional office work required for reporting and documentation.
