Physician (Primary Care) The Veterans Health Administration is seeking Primary Care Physicians for the Montana VA Health Care System. This open continuous announcement may be used to fill current or future Primary Care vacancies across Montana VA locations. The Physician functions as the team leader of a Patient Aligned Care Team, provides outpatient medical care using face-to-face, VA Video Connect, and telephone appointments, manages Veterans' medical comorbidities, supports quality improvement, and helps ensure compassionate, efficient, safe, and timely patient care. Provide outpatient medical care in a Community Based Outpatient Clinic setting. Provide care through face-to-face, VA Video Connect, and telephone appointments. Perform float provider duties as assigned, including face-to-face, telephone, or virtual coverage. Provide care to outreach clinics as needed when covering provider vacancies. Ensure Veterans receive compassionate, efficient, and safe patient care. Ensure clinical care meets required timelines and documentation standards. Review alerts daily and maintain alert volume within VA expectations. Complete encounter notes and encounter errors within required timeframes. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, daily huddles, and weekly PACT huddles. Manage PACT patients' medical comorbidities and support quality improvement efforts. Support achievement of national and VISN 19 patient safety goals. Participate in Primary Care statewide meetings and clinical or teaching activities when possible. Comply with VA directives and policies related to space management and resource utilization. Support Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set quality metrics. Basic Qualifications: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited in accordance with VA policy. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Must be subject to a background/security investigation. Must pass a pre-employment physical examination. Must pass pre-employment drug testing and remain subject to drug testing requirements for this testing designated position. Selective Service registration is required for males born after December 31, 1959. Must complete all application requirements and online onboarding requirements. Must provide acceptable identification for employment eligibility verification. Must participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program as required for Department of Veterans Affairs health care personnel. Selected applicant may be required to serve a probationary period. Education, Licensure, and Residency Requirements: Must have a Doctor of Medicine degree or equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine. Medical degree must be from an approved school of medicine or osteopathic medicine for the year in which the course of study was completed. Foreign medical graduates must meet Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates eligibility requirements for the year graduated, unless otherwise covered by VA policy. Must have a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Must have completed approved residency training in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification eligibility. Approved residency may include ACGME or AOA-approved residency training, or qualifying post-medical-school training followed by independent practice, as allowed by VA qualification standards. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met previous qualification standards at the time of initial appointment are deemed to meet the basic requirements of the occupation. Preferred Experience: Two years of Primary Care Provider experience. Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform all activities of the position without restriction. Requires considerable standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and turning. Requires repositioning patients and assisting with transfers to wheelchairs or stretchers. Mechanical devices must be used when available for heavy or difficult-to-lift patients. May involve pushing or lifting weight in excess of 50 pounds and going up and down flights of stairs. Requires visual and auditory acuity sufficient to provide safe and effective patient care. May require working with arms above shoulder level or with the neck fully flexed or extended. Must be able to physically control or protect self from physically abusive patients.
