Job Description: American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter School Year PositionJoin the team at Care Options for Kids
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to support students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in accessing their full academic and social potential. In this role, you'll facilitate communication, promote language access, and ensure students can fully participate in the general education curriculum.What You'll Do
Provide direct interpreting services in:
Classroom instruction across academic subjects
Small group and one-on-one settings
School activities, meetings, and events
Interpret using:
American Sign Language (ASL)
Signed Exact English (SEE) or other communication modalities (based on student needs)
Facilitate communication between students, teachers, peers, and school staff
Support students in accessing classroom instruction, discussions, and
Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH), Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), and families
Participate in IEP meetings and support communication access in compliance with Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
Requirements
High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Interpreting or related field preferred
Must meet South Carolina requirements for educational interpreters, including:
National certification through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) OR
Minimum score of 3.5 on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA)
Passing score on the EIPA Written Test (EIPA:WT)
