Neonatology Locums - Lansing, MIQuick Overview

Coverage NeedsDay Coverage
  • Approximately 9 weeks of daytime coverage needed
  • Preferred scheduling in continuous 7-14 day blocks
Night Coverage
  • Approximately 9 weeks of night call coverage needed
  • Home call coverage
Call Requirements
  • Call Ratio: 1:4
  • Night Shift: 14-hour home call
  • Must be able to arrive at the hospital within 30 minutes when called in
  • Call schedule is variable due to staffing shortages
Required Licenses & CertificationsLicensure
  • Active Michigan Medical License Required at Time of Name Clear
Board Certification
  • Board Certified in Neonatology Required
  • Truly Board Eligible Candidates May Be Considered
Training
  • Neonatology Fellowship Required
Certifications
  • Current NRP Advanced Provider or NRP Instructor Status Required
  • NALS Certification Preferred
Clinical Responsibilities
  • Neonatal intensive care coverage
  • Attend high-risk deliveries
  • Attend C-sections
  • Neonatal resuscitation and emergency management
  • Ventilator management
  • Potential supervision of Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNPs)
  • Documentation in Epic
Required Clinical Experience & ProceduresVentilation Management
  • BiPAP
  • CPAP
  • Oscillator Ventilator Support
  • Inhaled Nitric Oxide (iNO)
Required Procedures
  • Chest Tube Placement
  • Central Line Placement
  • Arterial Line Placement
  • PA Catheter Placement
  • Umbilical Venous Catheterization (UVC)
  • Umbilical Artery Catheterization (UAC)
  • PICC Placement
    • NNPs perform most PICC placements; physician support needed for difficult lines
Patient Volume & Unit InformationDaily Volume
  • Average Admissions: 3 per day
  • Average Daily Census: 31 patients
Staffing ModelDay Shift
  • Two Neonatologists split coverage
  • Four providers (NNPs and/or Residents) assist with patient management
  • Neonatologists assist when census exceeds provider caps
Night Shift
  • One Attending Neonatologist
  • Two In-House NNPs
Unit Capacity
  • 47 Total Beds
    • 33 Licensed NICU Beds
    • 12 Special Care Nursery Beds
    • 2 Bassinets
Schedule
  • Day Shift: 10 Hours
  • Night Shift: 14-Hour Home Call
Support Staff
  • NICU Nurse Manager
  • Operations Manager
  • Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNPs)
  • Nursing Staff
  • Physical Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Dietitians
  • Child Life Specialists
Ideal Candidate
  • Active Michigan license in hand
  • Board Certified Neonatologist (or truly Board Eligible)
  • Fellowship-trained in Neonatology
  • Current NRP Advanced Provider or Instructor certification
  • Comfortable managing a Level III NICU with high-risk deliveries, ventilator management, neonatal procedures, and call responsibilities
