Surgery - Thoracic Physician Assistant

Job description

  • Specialty: Cardiothoracic Surgical PA
  • Must have OR experience and OR license
  • Shifts are usually 24 hour shifts which include call coverage
  • Do they need special certifications? NCCPA Board Accredited Physician Assistant Program
  • Special procedures: Act as first-assist in the operating room for complex cardiothoracic surgical cases (coronary bypass, valve surgery, aortic surgery, thoracic procedures) in partnership with the cardiothoracic surgeons. Provide comprehensive perioperative care: patient history & physical examination; ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies; participating in rounds in ICU, step-down, and floor settings; manage post-operative care including chest tubes, pacing wires, central/arterial lines, ventilator management. Competence in advanced surgical support techniques(e.g., conduit harvesting, endoscopic vein harvest, intracardiac monitoring, complex thoracic surgical assistance.
  • Describe the daily shift requirements: Coverage of 24-hour period, day shift 8-12 hours, with first level practice call and coverage of patients in the continuum.
  • What are the coverage needs per month? 20 to 25 days (24-hr)
  • What is the daily patient volume? 6-18 patients per day.
  • Support Staff: CVOR techs, nurses, APPs, cath lab techs, vascular surgeons, anesthesia staff, nurse navigators, valve coordinators, front/back office clinic staffBecome an ICON:
