Job description

  • Physician Assistant - Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Practice Details Specialty: Physician Assistant - CT Surgery/ CVI
  • Target start date and Length of need: Mid-May 2026 - ongoing for 6-8 months
  • Locums Shift Schedule: 7 am - 3:30 pm with 30 min lunch included. 5 days per week, 8 hour shifts
  • Daily Responsibilities: OR coverage: endoscopic vein harvest, first assisting.
  • Inpatient rounding responsibilities: management of postoperative patients, writing notes, placing appropriate orders, removing surgical drains and pacing wires, discharges, admissions, consults.
  • Clinic responsibilities: one formal day of clinic per week, includes seeing post op patients, seeing new patients in consultation with the surgeon, preparing and educating patients for surgery. Answering outpatient phone calls.
  • Call Schedule and Call Responsibilities: No Call - possible Weekend rounding once per month (Saturday/Sunday, 4 hours each day)
  • Type of patients/cases/procedures required: Cardiac surgery patients, CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR; Approximately 150 open hearts per year
  • Patients Per Day/Volume: 6-8 patients per day
  • Available support staff & physician support: Other Cardiac PA's, office staff, 1 MD per day
  • Required Experience/Training: 2 -3 years cardiac experience
  • Trauma: Level II
  • # of Beds: 349 beds
  • Certifications required (Board Certification/Truly Board Eligible or life support, etc.): BC - Physician Assistant required; BLS, ACLS, PA license, PA DEA
  • Will you accept licensure candidates (IMLC or standard process)? Yes
  • Minimum candidate commitment to consider: 2 weeks per month
