Locums - Portland, Maine Endovascular Neurosurgery Opportunity (IMLC Welcome)

Clinical Role

Join a premier vascular neurosurgery program in Portland, Maine, providing dedicated inpatient neurovascular coverage for acute cerebrovascular emergencies. This ongoing locums opportunity is seeking a board-certified, fellowship-trained Endovascular Neurosurgeon to provide recurring call coverage focused exclusively on vascular neurosurgery. No spine, trauma, tumor, or general neurosurgery responsibilities are required.

Assignment Details

Start Date:

September 1, 2026

Contract Length:

Ongoing

Coverage Requirements:

Approximately 10 days of coverage per month

Coverage is typically organized into two to three assignments of three to four consecutive days, providing excellent schedule predictability

Coverage includes:

Weekday vascular call

Approximately one to two weekends each month

Planned vacation coverage

Schedule:

24-hour inpatient call while on service

100% inpatient coverage

No outpatient clinic

No elective practice

No outpatient follow-up responsibilities

Clinical Details & Responsibilities

Practice Setting:

Hospital-based inpatient vascular neurosurgery service

Emergency department consultations

Inpatient consultation service

Patient Population:

Adult patients requiring urgent and emergent cerebrovascular care

Clinical Responsibilities:

Emergency department consultations

Inpatient cerebrovascular consultations

Interpretation of advanced cerebrovascular imaging

Diagnostic cerebral angiography when clinically indicated

Mechanical thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke

Endovascular aneurysm treatment

Open vascular neurosurgical procedures when appropriate

Peri-procedural inpatient management

Coverage limited exclusively to vascular neurosurgical patients

Clinical Conditions Managed:

Acute ischemic stroke

Ruptured and complex intracranial aneurysms

Subarachnoid hemorrhage

Intracranial hemorrhage requiring neuroendovascular intervention

Cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs)

Dural arteriovenous fistulas (dAVFs)

Carotid artery disease

Intracranial occlusive disease

Other urgent cerebrovascular disorders requiring open or endovascular treatment

Required Procedures:

Mechanical thrombectomy

Diagnostic cerebral angiography

Endovascular aneurysm treatment

Neuroendovascular interventions

Open vascular neurosurgical procedures as clinically indicated

Support & Technology

Support Staff:

Dedicated vascular neurosurgery team

Hospital-based multidisciplinary stroke and neurovascular services

Collaborative inpatient care environment

EMR System:

Epic

Requirements

Board Certification in Neurological Surgery - Required

Fellowship Training in Endovascular Neurosurgery - Required

Active Maine License - Highly Preferred

OR

Active Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC) Letter of Qualification (LOQ) - Highly Preferred

Candidates requiring licensure will be considered

Experience using Epic EMR - Required

COVID-19 Vaccination - Required

Influenza Vaccination - Required
